My name is Jamisen Harris, a 17-year-old senior attending Basha High School. For my English senior project we were given the task to choose a topic we care about and give back to that community. My project revolves around the importance of having cultural representation in media and print to help children embrace their diversity. As a young Black girl living in Arizona, I suffered with a loss of self esteem due to lack of representation and it caused me struggled with self love. I never saw Black women who look like me in the media nor in the books that were popular to read. Children of different races don’t have the same inclusion in the media and this can lead to lacking self-love starting at a young age. I want to help by providing young kids with books that include representation. I would love to be able to give books to young girls where they see images that represent themselves. We must use our voices to help racial inclusion for the next generation. I have partnered with Dr. Angela Kenzslowe, with Kenzslowe Consulting LLC, because this speaks directly to my cause. My goal is to provide books for all of the attendees who come to see Woman King in September 16th.
How amazing will it be to place books in the hands beautiful Black girls attending this event! I hope by giving the girls books representing themselves they will feel strong, gorgeous and represented!
My goal is 50 books in 8 days! I believe with your support WE can do this.
Send a monetary donation so that will allow me to purchase the book.
